Headcanon for Canon
Jun. 21st, 2013 11:41 amWhile a number of mirror heroes and villains appeared in Hood's episode, none were given backstory and few had speaking roles or characterization. I wrote them some.
Injustice Syndicate
A group of supercriminals under the command of Owlman. The group's HQ is "Injustice Tower" in Gotham City, a fortress built from a modified skyscraper and decorated with an owl theme.
Owlman: A ruthless strategist, fighter, and scientist who rules all crime in Gotham, as well as in numerous areas worldwide. He creates backup plans for every situation and has seemingly endless technological and mental resources. Until the appearance of Red Hood his control of Gotham was virtually unchallenged. His civilian identity, if he even has one, is unknown.
Blue Bowman: Owlman's second in command. He is not as impulsive or greedy as most of the syndicate, content to make precision strikes with his arrows to further a longer goal. While he isn't particularly fond of Owlman he acknowledges that trying to seize power from him directly would be impossible. He has a torrid love/hate relationship with Gotham mob boss Banshee.
Scarlet Scarab: At 18, Scarlet Scarab is one of the youngest members of the Syndicate. The alien technology attached to his back lets him generate a powerful array of weaponry, which he uses with sadistic glee. He resents the lack of respect from the older members of the Syndicate, who look down on him for his youth and hotheadedness. Owlman keeps him on a tight leash. For unclear reasons he keeps "the heart of a hero" in a jar in the back of his closet.
Silver Cyclone: An android with wind vortex generators and a loathing of all organic life. He believes himself to be emotionless perfection and thus superior to humans, ignoring that hate itself is considered an emotion. He often serves as the Syndicate's interrogator due to his precision and resistance to psychological manipulation. Silver Cyclone's head was blown up by Red Hood and he is presumed out of commission or deceased.
Dyna-Mite: Physicist capable of shrinking himself while retaining the strength of his normal body. He is more loyal to Owlman than Blue Bowman and both use him to spy on their enemies.
King Leviathan: Leader of the Atlanteans. With his control over sea creatures and water, he rules the oceans with an iron fist and charges high prices to those who wish to use his waters. He is only a member of the crime syndicate out of mutual benefit, and does not consider Owlman a credible threat to his power.
Chimera: A former big game hunter with the ability to merge two different animals into one horrific hybrid, and then bend the resulting monstrosity to his will. The terror and confusion caused by his beasts is as great a weapon as their physical prowess.
Ratel: A bareknuckles brawler who oversees the gambling and fighting rings of Gotham City. He also deals out punishments to citizens who refuse to pay up for Owlman's protection rackets. Like his namesake, he is both ferocious and durable in battle.
Inferno: A savage but vain supervillain who breathes orange flames. She enjoys the trappings of power but is disinterested in the work needed to achieve them, and so allies herself with the Syndicate as a superpowered enforcer.
Contortionist: A petty thief who can stretch and twist his rubbery body to any extent, due to an accident with experimental chemicals. Owlman controls him through manipulating both his cowardice and his endless greed.
Justice Alliance
A loose alliance of heroes who gathered to face the threat posed by the Syndicate. They tend to work alone, but may call on each other for aid if necessary.
Timekeeper: The gadgeteer for the alliance and one of the first Gotham heroes to join Red Hood in his fight against crime. His fixation on plans and perfect timing serves as the counterbalance to Red Hood's impulsive spontaneity. He carries a sword cane and uses clock-themed gadgetry to throw his opponents off guard, though he prefers to avoid combat when possible. Timekeeper is obsessed with clocks and time, a neurosis made worse by harsh interrogation during his imprisonment by the Syndicate.
Gentleman Ghost: 'Gentleman' Jim Craddock was a a notorious highwayman sentenced to the gallows in the late 1800s. The angel Asteroth granted him the ability to atone for his sins by persisting on after death in order to fight against injustice. He appears as a figure in a black suit, cloak, and top hat with monocle, with the body beneath the clothes rendered invisible. Gentleman Ghost can shoot spectral energy from his cane and a pair of flintlock pistols. He can also teleport and become intangible or invisible at will (his invisible body is actually him hiding the form of his decayed corpse), though Nth metal can affect him in any form.
Comrade Grodd: Grodd is a white-furred intelligent gorilla from Gorilla City, a technologically advanced city inhabited by a race of sentient apes. His desire for peace and outreach to humans made him a pariah among the hostile, isolationist society of Gorilla City. Grodd has limited telepathic abilities that allow him to calm the minds of those around him. As a gorilla his strength far outranks that of humans, though he abhors unnecessary violence. He is also extremely educated in many aspects of human and gorilla knowledge.
Sinestro: Leader of the Yellow Lantern Corps. Yellow Lanterns are chosen for their ability to resist great fear and use their rings to impart fear upon evildoers. Sinestro and his corps generally focus their efforts on offworld enemies, including the powerful empire of the Green Lanterns, but he will come to Earth's aid when the danger threatens to spread to other worlds.
Cerebrum and Monsieur Mallah: Cerebrum was a brilliant scientist who worked on increasing the intelligence of animals. His greatest success was Monsieur Mallah, a gorilla he uplifted to human sentience and educated as an assistant. After an explosion destroyed his body, he was kept alive as a disembodied brain in a tank. Despite his physical limitations Cerebrum is an unsurpassed strategist with a genius level IQ, as well as limited telekinetic abilities. He provides intellectual support to the Alliance but prefers to be left alone to continue his research. He and Mallah share a romantic bond and both hope to one day create a new body for Cerebrum to inhabit.
Devil Ray: Devil Ray focuses primarily on marine combat. His fishing town was attacked by King Leviathan and the Atlanteans as punishment for not paying the requested tribute. Many of its citizens were either killed or captured, including members of his family. The survivors rallied themselves as an undersea guerilla army, fighting the Atlanteans on their own turf. Devil Ray is generally disinterested in land-based crime, focused on revenge against the Atlanteans. He wields harpoon guns and a lance for close combat, and uses a fast submarine to dodge Atlantean blockades.
Doctor Lodestone: A scientist who developed a power suit that gave him the ability to manipulate magnetic fields, as well as levitate iron and iron-based alloys. He retired after the defeat of the Syndicate, the stress of his imprisonment having soured him on crimefighting.
Glider: A hero who uses a kite-shaped flight suit. Presumed killed during the battle against the Injustice Syndicate, as he was not among the freed prisoners.
